In this virtual locker room, the boys shared nudes of girls their age mostly , objectified them, and made plans to rape or gangrape one of them. The messages were horrifying to say the least, but I was more shocked to find that the boys were mostly students aged between 14 to 16, studying at premier institutions. This incident brought to light more of such chat rooms active across the country. I was branded a drama queen, among other unpleasant names, and made fun of. I guess I am shattered today yet again, knowing that the history repeats itself: every single perpetrator gets away, while every single victim is haunted forever.
Social media users are now urging the Police to take action against the perpetrators before things escalate further. Trigger warning: Vulgarity, degradation, objectification of women. Do NOT try to tell me this is normal. One of the boys who was active in this group posted a long public apology.
The police officer detailed that the boy, who got worried, took a screenshot of the chat on Snapchat and sent it to his friends, including the girl. While the girl did not forward the screenshots to anyone, the boy shared them with a few of his friends. One of his friends then posted it on Instagram as his story, which started circulating on social media, the officer continued. The officer said until now, the police have not found any conversation on the Bois Locker Room group suggesting sexual assault on any girl. One juvenile has also been apprehended and sent to a correction home.
